An ecological house in Rwanda - (in construction)
The site - the dream
This project envisions a contemporary, sustainable refuge in the Fumbwe region of Rwanda. Set on a 12,700m2 site, it combines responsible design, local materials, agriculture, and community participation to foster a harmonious coexistence between architecture, nature, and local inhabitants. The complex has three phases / buildings: The main house is composed of four volumes with high, sloped ceilings, connected by a flat-ceiling passage to allow cross-ventilation and light. Orientation maximizes views to the lake and takes advantage of prevailing winds. Guest accommodations and a community building provide spaces for family, visiting artists, and social gatherings. Architecture mediates between landscape, climate, and the everyday life of the clients, adapting to the site’s topography, altitude, and ecological conditions.
